The steps to becoming a Mortgage Broker

Complete Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking.
To become a mortgage broker or credit adviser, the primary industry requirement is obtaining an FNS40821 Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking. This qualification allows you to become accredited with lenders and mortgage industry associations. Even experienced brokers must hold this certificate to meet industry standards.

Be enrolled or complete the Diploma in Finance and Mortgage Broking
As of January 2013, brokers aiming to join the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) must obtain a Diploma in Finance and Mortgage Broking Management. This qualification is required within the first year of MFAA membership, enhancing your professional credibility.

Sign up to an Industry Association
Joining a mortgage broker industry association, such as the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) or the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA), is a vital step. Membership provides access to industry resources, networking opportunities, and continued professional development.

Get an Australian Credit Licence or become a Credit Representative
